Griego taught by father how to fire weapons

Nehemiah Griego, 15, was taught how to use firearms and exactly where to get them, Bernalillo County Sheriff Dan Houston said.
"They were in the parents’ bedroom, that's obviously, he waited for his mother to fall asleep before he went into the bedroom and into the closet to gain access to the weapons," Houston said. "It's our understanding that the father shot with him on a regular basis, I don't know if it was a hobby or what."
John Johnson, showroom manager at Security Source, said after buying a gun, the first thing any responsible owner should do is buy a security safe so it cannot end up in the hands of anyone else.
"I think it should be a law," Johnson said.
Currently, over a dozen states across the country have gun safety laws that require guns be kept away from children in safes or be equipped with trigger locks. New Mexico is not one of them.
"If you can access a gun quickly then whatever thought pattern you have at that time is going to be carried out," Johnson said.
Griego had the .22 caliber rifle, the AR-15 rifle, two additional shotguns and numerous rounds of ammunition inside his family's car that he was driving around in all day before he was taken in for questioning, detectives said.
