Over 2,000 attend Griego vigil

More than 2,000 people packed a local church Wednesday night to honor the Griego family.
Once a gang member, Greg Griego turned his life around thanks to his new found faith.
Wednesday night, his family's church tried to come to grips with the family's terrible tragedy.
Joined in song and prayer, many people gathered at Calvary Church in Albuquerque to honor the life and ministry of former Pastor, Greg Griego and his family.
Greg, his wife Sara and their three young children were murdered last Saturday. Authorities say 15-year-old Nehemiah Griego is their murderer. One of Calvary's pastors, Skip Heitzig, told the congregation not to jump to conclusions about what happened inside their home.
"Even if we had an explanation for what happened, that's not going to heal our broken hearts," Heitzig said. "We don't need reasons, we need resources and that's where God comes in."
The crowd saw some of Greg Griego's work as a chaplain at the Metropolitan Detention Center. They also heard from a former member of Griego's so-called "God Pod" in the county jail.
"He reminds me of Paul the Apostle, the sent one. Every time I saw Greg he was on the move. Just sent out. Love you brother," Ivan Newman said.
Calvary has a message for a member of the church; the family's own son and their accused murderer, Nehemiah Griego.
"What should our attitude be? For justice? Yes. But for mercy? Yes. And keep in mind what Greg Griego and his family's ministry was," Heitzig said. "He was all about going to the prison house and visiting the prisoner and assuring the prisoner that no matter what you have done there is a possibility of forgiveness and restoration."
The pastor shared a message from the Griego family.
They are very thankful for the outpouring of support and ask for prayers, not only for strength but for Nehemiah as well.
