NM bill would allow more unmarked state vehicles

SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - There could be more unmarked state government vehicles in New Mexico under a bill starting to move through the Legislature.
The bill sponsored by Republican Sen. Sander Rue of Albuquerque is intended to allow probation and parole officers and child welfare workers to do their jobs in sensitive situations without advertising that they work for government.
The Santa Fe New Mexican reports that New Mexico law now generally allows state vehicles to go unmarked and not carry government registration plates only if they're used for undercover law enforcement.
Rue's bill would allow local governments and other government entities to also take advantage of the proposed exemption.
The bill cleared one Senate committee Thursday en route to another.
