An avalanche in Southern Colorado has closed U.S. Highway 550 south of Coal Bank Pass.

The Colorado Department of Transportation closed the road so avalanche control work can be done on Molas and Wolf Creek Pass north of Red Mountain Pass.

The slide, at Lime Creek, doesn’t prevent skiers and snowboarders from reaching Durango Mountain Resort.

Travelers can dial 511 or check co.trip.org online to check road and weather conditions.
