Pipe bombs found near Rio Rancho

Sandoval County Sheriff’s deputies found two pipes bombs west of Rio Rancho Thursday.

Deputies received the dispatch call at 1:30 p.m. A man riding on an ATV near Rio Puerco reported that he found a spool and what looked liked a pipe bomb.

The Albuquerque Police Department’s Bomb Squad investigated the bombs.

One blew up as it was being worked on and the other was taken apart revealing gun powder inside.

The Rio Rancho Fire Department also responded to the scene as a precaution.

The inert bombs were taken to the Crime Lab for futher analysis and to determine if they match others authorities have there.
