City streamlining plans go unused

For now, it’s being called the $200,000 binder. The City of Albuquerque paid a consultant for ideas last fall, but so far we haven’t seen any of the ideas put into practice.
The binder has hundreds of efficiency ideas for each city department.
In September, the mayor told us within two months we should expect him to implement some of the ideas.
The mayor told KOB Eyewitness News 4 Friday he had to delay the process because he needed more time to talk to his staff. However, the mayor thinks the wait will be worth it. He said Friday that he believes the savings the city will achieve in the future will more than pay for the cost of the report.
Some of the ideas in the report include dissolving the Aviation Police Department and having the Albuquerque Police Department take over security. The consultant recommends some fee increases and doing away with some managers.
