Film office working on tourism ideas

Whether it’s on the small screen or the big screen, New Mexico has made its mark recently. The state has had both Oscar and Emmy award winning shows. It has the tourism and the film office working together to bring people from all over the world to see it first hand, where things get made.
It's being called "Film Tourism". The details are still in the works, but the New Mexico Film Office sees a chance for tourism.
"There's a big market out there where people will travel to see where film and television shows were shot," said Film Office Director Nick Maniatis. He thinks it could be totally interactive.
"Ultimately you could have an iPhone or whatever phone you have that will show you a clip of what was shot there. We're not there yet. But those are part of the ideas that we're working on."
The city of Albuquerque is already seeing it on a small scale. “Breaking Bad” filming here over the last several years has made this travel tourism idea a reality and not just a good idea.
Ann Lerner is the Film Liaison for the City of Albuquerque. She sees it as a win-win situation.
"It's another economic engine that's going to bring people here to visit us and to spend their money in hotels and shops- restaurants."
They're hoping that TV and movie buffs will want to see all those New Mexico locations first hand.
"It's hard to really measure how many people are coming here because of the tourism location, but I know that it is significant. You know hotel people, restaurants- they're all benefiting from this," said Lerner.
"Once they're here they're going to fall in love with New Mexico, with our cuisine and our amazing weather."
If all goes well with the tourism and film office initiative, expect to see interactive maps and film tours as soon as this spring.
One of the ideas being tossed around is a “Love Ranger” loop. They expect a lot of interest with the film hitting theaters this summer.
