SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - A 27-year-old Santa Fe man is accused of biting off the tip of a big toe of a former girlfriend. Daniel Anaya faces charges of burglary, false imprisonment, interference with communications and aggravated battery against a household member.

The Santa Fe New Mexican reports that Anaya is jailed in lieu of a $50,000 cash bond.

Santa Fe police say officers arrested Anaya Wednesday in connection with the incident Saturday at an apartment where Anaya formerly lived with the ex-girlfriend.

According to police, Anaya bit off part of the woman's left big toe during a struggle. Police say the woman hobbled to a neighbor's door crying for help and that Anaya had left by the time officers arrived.
