Voters reject Aztec mill levy

Nearly $2 million would have gone to Aztec schools, but voters rejected the mill levy Tuesday.
"We don't have anymore to give them we've had to learn how to cut out belts and how to spend more financially responsible," Aztec resident Brandi Brown said.
But not everyone feels that way, and in the end just 100 votes made the difference.
"I think it is very important to contribute and build up our schools, our school buildings and their resources," said Aztec resident Charles Pike.
The money would have gone towards day to day maintenance repairs on the grounds as well as technology repairs in the classrooms.
The classroom computers are about seven years old, and they need to be continually updated in order for the classroom to run efficiently.
Money currently generated from the mill levy pays for technology and maintenance repairs all over the district and without it, it's going to be tough to get things done.
"This mill money is what we run our department on it's what we buy our supplies with its what we use to buy equipment with," Charles Lee, maintenance director of Aztec schools said, "It's what we use to be able to repair make all kinds of repairs and buy the kind of supplies we need."
