Rio Rancho police say a Bernalillo man has died after his motorcycle collided with an SUV Thursday in the city.

James Gustafson, 67, suffered injuries to his head, face and extremities Thursday after his motorcycle collided into an SUV that was turning at the intersection of NM 528 and Northern.

He was airlifted to UNM Hospital, where he later died.

The driver of the SUV, Theodore Kaufmann, 72, was not injured.

Police determined that Kaufmann was turning from northbound NM 528 to westbound Northern when he was struck by Gustafson, who was riding his 2008 Harley Davidson motorcycle southbound on NM 528.

Police do not believe alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash.

The case is still under investigation and no charges have been filed.
