The sheriff of San Juan County, Ken Christiansen, has let residents know that he strongly supports the right to bear arms.

"I think it's wonderful that he stood up and said what he did," said Eppie Sanchez of Bloomfield

A few weeks ago the sheriff spoke at a pro-gun rally in Farmington to support the second amendment.

Now the city of Bloomfield wants to show its support for him.

Tuesday night, the city council is expected to pass a resolution supporting the sheriff's stance on the second amendment.

Similar resolutions have been passed in neighboring states and the city is using this as a symbolic way to support the sheriff.

People we talked to said the resolution is also a way to defend the Constitution.

“It's standing up against changes in the constitution that's something we all need to show support,” said City Counselor Curtis Lynch

"I realize that there's been a lot of gun violence, but I don't think penalizing law-abiding citizens is the way to go,” said Heather King.
