Albuquerque honors civil rights pioneer Carnis Salisbury

KOB Eyewitness News 4 was there Tuesday as a Southeast Albuquerque building was named in honor of an African American housing pioneer.
The Albuquerque Housing Authority building was dedicated to Carnis Salisbury. She and her husband worked hard for fair housing legislation in Albuquerque.
In particular, the couple worked to eliminate restrictive covenants that kept people of certain ethnicities from living or buying houses in various neighborhoods.
The couple’s daughters were present at the ceremony.
They say the naming the building on University near Gibson after their mother is a fitting tribute.
“A lot of people here today are their friends,” said Patricia Salisbury. “They didn't do it by themselves, believe me, you never do anything wonderful by yourself.”
Carnis Salibury passed away in 2011 at the age of 97.
