Severe winter weather made it's way through New Mexico Sunday evening and caused numerous road closures and has dozens of schools on delay.
Eastbound lanes on Interstate 40 from Eubank to Moriarty were closed shortly after 10 p.m. Snow and high winds caused difficult driving conditions on I-40 as far east as Tucumcari.
Interstate 25 was closed from Rowe and Las Vegas shortly after 7 p.m. due to heavy snow accumulation. It was re-opened shortly after 10 p.m. but roads are icy and visibility is low.
A tank crash has closed the northbound lanes on U.S. 84/285 and U.S. 599 in Santa Fe. Gas is reportedly leaking on the highway and drivers are asked to avoid the area.
Snow accumulation is expected in the metro Albuquerque area.
There are also more than 50 school delays.
In the afternoon, a system was east of Clines Corners and near Santa Rosa.
Snow and ice dropped visibility on the interstate but did not cause any traffic issues.
The snow lasted a short time, but the system is growing into the evening and could impact travel on 1-40.
One traveler at Santa Rosa, NM hopes to stay ahead of the storm.
"We'll, you know, it's back there (west) and I'm going that way (east). So, it should be all right, unless it catches up to me tonight. I'll have to stop," Denny Wright said.
