Rio Arriba man sentenced to 29 years for killing motorcyclist

A Rio Arriba County man convicted of driving drunk, crossing into oncoming traffic and hitting and killing a motorcyclist near Chimayo in 2011 has been sentenced to 29 years in prison.
Juan de Dios Cordova was sentenced Monday by a state district judge in Santa Fe.
His sentence of 29 years and two days was the maximum the judge could have given, Deputy First Judicial District Attorney Juan Valencia told KOB.
And because Cordova’s offense is considered a “serious, violent offense,” he will have to serve 85 percent of his sentence, rather than the half-time good credit offered to less serious offenders, Valencia said.
Cordova was convicted in December of vehicular homicide, two counts of great bodily injury, two counts of aggravated DWI and knowingly leaving the scene of an accident.
As a result, he was sentenced as a serious violent offender. Cordova was accused of driving his pickup head-on into a group of motorcyclists on N.M. 76 over Memorial Day weekend in 2011.
The first motorcycle's driver, Mark Wolfe, was killed and his wife was badly injured.
Two other bikers were also hurt.
