A New Mexico judge has resigned after an investigation by the state Judicial Standards Commission.

Court documents show Las Vegas District Judge Eugenio Mathis violated computer and internet policy.

The Judicial Standards Commission says Mathis exchanged inappropriate instant messages with his wife during court proceedings.

Documents indicate there were messages that indicated the judge and his wife would be having or had sex during the workday on court premises.

The document also says the judge made inappropriate comments about court cases, witnesses and supervisors.

Mathis' resignation was effective as of 5 p.m. Thursday.
