SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - A proposal to finance nearly $174 million in capital improvements is heading to the Senate and supporters say it will create jobs across New Mexico.

The measure cleared the House on a 58-10 vote Thursday and goes to the Senate. Most of the financing comes from bonds backed by tax money from oil and natural gas production.

The bill provides $13 million to replace school buses statewide and $10 million for water supply projects required by water rights settlements with Indian tribes.

Also financed by the proposal are $6 million for new voting equipment, $6 million for a new geology facility at New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology and $5 million for improvements to a math and science learning center at the University of New Mexico.
