SANTA FE, NM (AP) Lawmakers have endorsed a former colleague to continue serving on a board overseeing New Mexico's endowment funds and other investments valued at nearly $17 billion.

Las Cruces businessman Leonard Lee Rawson was unanimously confirmed by the Senate on Wednesday to a four-year term on the State Investment Council.

He was named initially to the council in 2010 by the Legislature after state law was changed to expand the council to 11 members and revamp its powers.

Rawson operates a builders and construction supply business, and is a former No. 2 Senate Republican leader. He served in the Senate from 1993 to 2008, when he lost his re-election bid. He was a member of the House in 1987-1992.

With his reappointment, Rawson will serve on the council until 2017.
