With so many pizza options in Albuquerque you wouldn't think we need another one, right?
In this week Best Bites, we introduce you to a new pizzeria serving up something you won't find anywhere else.
Zia Pizzeria is located on Central near Tramway.
It's a labor of love for brother and sister Niraj Patel and Bonita Patel Elevario.
They launched the family business a couple of months ago. They say it's an escape from the computer software consulting they both still do, by day.
"It's almost like a break though, I come here and I'm like, I'm just cooking for my friends," say Bonita. She adds, "It feels more like a family atmosphere than work."
Zia Pizzeria is not only family run but they're giving the food the Patel family flavor.
"We basically created a fusion of American and Indian foods to create a unique flavor," says Bonita.
You'll find that in the Tandoori chicken pizza, an idea they got as kids when their mom combined east Indian flavors on top of a pizza.
Or you can get some heat by trying the approporiately named "Diablo" with garlic, green chile and red pepper flakes baked in.
If it's just you eating, there's a fresh caprese salad to keep it light or you can fill up on a stromboli or calzone.
Niraj explains the difference.
"Calzones are no sauce in. Sauce is served on the side. A stromboli is served with sauce on the inside."
Pizza is also available by the slice.
