Neighbors praise girl's bravery during home invasion

Three teenagers are behind bars Thursday night after a 10-year-old girl heard them in her backyard, right before they broke in.
Police said she locked herself in her room and called 911.
It happened this morning in southwest Albuquerque.
The little girl, who’s on Spring Break, was sleeping when she heard a noise. She told KOB Eyewitness News 4 she texted her dad, who was at work, and asked him if he was home. He wrote “no”. That’s when she knew something was about to happen.
Now, neighbors are praising her for her bravery.
Wise beyond her years is how one neighbor describes the little girl.
“It almost brought me to tears thinking of what could have happened but thank God, nothing did happen,” said Sara Ausbun, who has known the girl since she was five.
Ausbun brought the girl to her house while police investigated.
“She was shaken - she was shaken, Actually, shaking and she was really scared, crying but she pulled herself together,” said Ausbun. “She’s been very mature her whole life. She’s a very, very mature little girl."
Police said three teenagers used a trash can to jump into the backyard. They broke a kitchen window to get into the house. “I just can’t believe it. This neighborhood used to be safe and nice and quiet,” said Sara.
Ausbun said in the past month, there have been a couple burglaries. She’s even thought of extending her fence to protect her home.
“Even me at my age. I don’t know how I would have handled that situation but a grace beyond her years is what she’s got,” said Ausbun.
Police told KOB 4 caught the teens in the living room and they had no idea anyone was home.
They’ve since been booked into the juvenile detention center.
Police think two of the teens may be linked to another burglary that happened last month.
