ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - A Shiprock man is facing a 19-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to second-degree murder and attempted robbery.

Federal prosecutors in New Mexico say 31-year-old Malcolm Altisi entered into a plea agreement Monday.

They say Altisi also will have to serve up to five years of supervised release after his prison term.

Altisi was accused of killing 25-year-old Rolan Joe on Oct. 17, 2011.

Prosecutors say Altisi admitted to attempting to rob a man at his Shiprock home at gunpoint.

He told authorities that he shot Joe later that day when Joe confronted him about the attempted robbery.

Altisi has been in federal custody since his arrest in November 2011.

Prosecutors say he will remain detained pending his sentencing hearing, which has yet to be scheduled.
