A bill that would increase New Mexico’s minimum wage to $8.50 an hour has reached the governor’s desk.
However, New Mexico Governor Susana Martinez is concerned about the bill.
“(Lawmakers) instead chose to pass a gimmick- one that would raise the minimum wage to the fourth highest in the nation. They know that's unsustainable and uncompetitive,” Martinez said.
The house and senate both approved the bill in time to get it on Martinez’s desk before Saturday’s noon deadline.
If the governor signs the bill it would give New Mexico the fourth highest minimum wage in the county. The bill now sits on the governor’s desk awaiting her signature.
