Historic Luna Lodge reopens

Trumpets, sights, and sounds from the motel’s early days rang out today, and even the cars were old.
Historian David Kammer said, “Route 66 is very important for giving people a sense of place. This is going to be a great place.”
Today was the grand re-opening for the historic Luna Lodge, once a major stopping point along Route 66 that fell by the wayside, but the rooms have now been remodeled and converted to nostalgic looking studios and one bedroom apartments.
New Life Homes director John Bloomfield said, “By focusing on the most vulnerable people in the community we can help many residents with mental illness and physical disabilities.”
Della Venegas was one of the first tenants to move in. Venegas says, “It’s great and wonderful that I can afford it on my own and my income is very little.”
Venegas is grateful to have one of the 30 apartments available for low income and special needs tenants and says, “I have food in my fridge, and the necessities, basics, and then some are covered.
Luna Lodge is a historic spot along Route 66 with a new useful life.
