If you were thinking this was finally going to be the year for the Lobos, and put down some money on UNM, chances are Friday, you had to pay up.  The heartbreaking headlines were plastered everywhere.

With a stunning loss, it was over for the Lobos and for fans, and it might as well have been the end of the tournament too.

"I'm pretty much done because that's really the only team I really cared about and as soon as they lost, I kinda lost all hope and I just quit," Matt Grindstaff, a depressed Lobo fan, said.

Optimistic brackets are now useless and in the trash.

"It ruined my whole night," Grindstaff said.

Not just the night, it ruined the whole day for KOB Eyewitness News 4 Reporter Stuart Dyson.

"It's kind of a bracket buster," Dyson, feeling distraught, said.  "Drought, recession, Lobos... somebody please, cut my heart out."

As the saying goes, misery, even in terms of basketball, loves company.

"I don't think anyone thought it was going to happen but I had them going to the lead eight," Robert Chavez, a disappointed Lobo fan, said.  "I haven't looked at it since last night, since after, you know, the final whistle.  I'll look at it eventually, when I get over it."

Monique Chavez, a loyal Lobo fan sporting a team shirt, reminded fans to keep things in perspective.

"It was just a tough game for them," she said.  "I'm always a Lobo; I'm so proud of them, always."

As for Chavez, he said, there is always another chance next year.

"One of these years we'll break through," Chavez said.

According to Yahoo Sports online, only 4.5% of people participating in the bracket challenge picked Harvard to beat New Mexico.

As far as KOB’s own bracket challenge, no participants picked Harvard to win.
