After Thursday's big upset for the Lobo men's basketball team against Harvard, are fans feeling buyer's remorse about Coach Steve Alford's expensive new contract?
The coach got a 10-year extension that nearly doubles his pay just two days before the team's loss to Harvard. UNM Athletics Director Paul Krebs said in the announcement of the new contract that fans would definitely be helping foot that bill. That could mean things like higher ticket prices or parking fees.
KOB Eyewitness News 4 asked Lobo fans if they are still willing to pay more.
"I think he's been a great asset to the program so I definitely agree that it was a good deal that he got signed again," fan Carlos Archuleta said.
Radio host Erik Gee for 610 The Sports Animal said the fans are resilient and will forgive, but they won't forget.
"There's still hope there. They still know that there's good things on the horizon so that 10 year contract to them...they're okay with it," Gee said. "Right now it's like a fight in a marriage. It's a bad fight, but you're going to forgive your wife and you're going to come back to her, or you're going to forgive your husband and come back to him and everything will be fine."
How fans will help pick up the tab and the exact cost increase still hasn't been determined.
