CARLSBAD, N.M. (AP) - Carlsbad will be imposing outdoor watering schedules for residents starting April 1.
City Administrator Jon Tully tells the Carlsbad Current-Argus that most residents are keenly aware that the region is in its third year of intense drought and that there's no sign of any relief.
The limited watering schedules will be in place through September.
Forecasters with the National Weather Service in Albuquerque said Friday that all indications are that the drought will persist through the spring and the state is in line for more hot weather through June.
Carlsbad updated its water conservation ordinance in 2011 to require that outdoor watering be limited to certain days and hours.
The ordinance took effect in April 2012 and the city saw a substantial drop in water use as people started to adhere to the ordinance.
