Authorities have identified the hiker that was found dead in Sandia Mountains Friday afternoon.
The hiker was Carlos Cox, 34, of Albuquerque.
Cox was on the La Luz trail.
Bernalillo Fire and State Police Search and Rescue went to the crest and started hiking down the trail - they didn't know the extent of the Cox's injuries.
Crews are treating the incident as an accident and working to determine the cause of the accident and death.
We're told Cox was a member of the Albuquerque Mountain Rescue team and was a very experienced hiker. Cox was hiking alone, but told his family where he was supposed to be. State Police said he was wearing a helmet and had repelling gear on him, but wasn't using it.
KOB 4 is told the initial call for help came into dipatch around 3 p.m. Friday afternoon. We're told the caller said he was on the La Luz trail and could hear someone yelling for help off in the distance.
