ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - A Bernalillo County Metropolitan Court judge is retiring and a bipartisan nominating panel will accept applications until early June from lawyers interested in applying for the judicial vacancy.

Metropolitan Court Judge Sandra Clinton is retiring effect June 30. The 19-member court has legal authority similar to magistrate courts in other counties.

A Judicial Nominating Commission announced Monday that it will meet June 14 in Albuquerque to screen applicants and recommend candidates for possible appointment by Republican Gov. Susana Martinez.

The commission's meeting is open to the public. The deadline for applications is June 4. Candidates for the Metropolitan Court must be lawyers who have practiced in the state for at least three years.
