Festivities for North America's biggest pow-pow are underway.

The annual Gathering of Nations kicked off Thursday night with the Miss Indian World talent competition.

The event was held at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. Miss Indian world will be crowned this weekend.

Meanwhile, venders were hard at work setting up for events at The Pit.

Thousands  of people from around North America will gather there starting Friday.

“Everybody comes from so far, you know I'm from North Carolina. I see friends that are from Oregon and Montana, California. We don't always see each other, but at gatherings you always see people you haven't seen for the whole year,” said North Carolina vendor Renae Ingram.

Doors open at 10 a.m. Friday. The grand entrance of dancers starts at 12 p.m., and    drum and dancing competitions start at 3 p.m.
