Man fatally shot outside Farmington mall

A man is dead and two suspects were detained after a shooting outside the Animas Valley Mall in Farmington, NM.

Farmington Police Lt. Taft Tracy said Benjamin Vialpando, 25, was shot outside the Family Dollar entrance around 5 p.m. on Saturday.

He was taken in a private vehicle to the urgent care hospital across the street from where he was reportedly shot. He was then sent to the San Juan Regional Medical where he died from the gunshot wound, police said.

According to Farmington police, the people believed to have shot Vialpando fled the scene and their vehicle was located by San Juan County Sheriff’s deputies.

Two people were detained and interviewed by police.

The investigation is ongoing, and police are checking out multiple crime scenes.
