Tim Harris, owner of the Northeast Albuquerque Restaurant Tim’s Place, was honored by Mayor Richard Berry and Albuquerque Fire Chief James Breen for his charitable contributions.

Tim, best known for his free hugs, held a hug-a-thon that raised about $6,500 for the Albuquerque Areas Firefighters Random Acts organization.  It’s a charity that assists fire victims or those who are down on their luck.

The mayor gave Tim a coin given out only to people who have done heroic actions in the community. And Breen named Tim as an honorary firefighter.

Tim and his father Keith are scheduled to appear on Sunday’s edition of Eye on New Mexico with Nicole Brady and Chris Ramirez.
