Best Bites samples Weekdays restaurant

Just because you only have a 30-minute lunch break doesn't mean you have to eat at your desk every day.

In this week's best bites: a downtown eatery that can have your lunch on the table when you get there.

The food philosophy at Weekdays Restaurant and Anytime Catering is pretty simple.

"Nothing real fancy, just good food that people like to eat that sticks to your ribs," says co-owner Keith Templeton.

He and his co-owner wife, Patti, met 30 years ago working in a restaurant in Portland, Oregon.

They got married, went into business, moved to New Mexico and they have been running Weekdays for the past 10 years, moving into their new location at 5th and Lead a year ago.

Having a highly coveted parking lot in the middle of downtown is definitely convenient for those rushing in on their lunch break.

But it's the food that keeps customers coming back.

Some items on the breakfast menu: hot coffee, an endless amount of fresh baked pastries, breakfast quesadilla or breakfast tacos.

For lunch you can keep it light with items like the cobb salad or fill up with the crowd favorite, the New Mexico cheesesteak sandwich.

Keith's green chile version is said to rival those in Philly.

And just when you think you don't have time to sit down for lunch, think again.

Patti says call ahead and she'll have your hot meal waiting for you.

"Come on in to weekdays, sit down, take five. That's what we're all about," says Patti.
