ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - New Mexico regulators are starting anew on a controversial rule to cap the cost of renewable energy to public utilities and their customers.
The Santa Fe New Mexican reports the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission on Wednesday voted to cancel a public hearing next week on the new rule and adopt a previously approved plan that was never published or implemented.
The panel also voted to start a rewrite of the rule.
A Western Resource Advocates attorney called Wednesday's action, "a good outcome."
He said the scrapped rule had become a loophole to allow litigation on money spent on renewable energy.
The rule is meant to ensure a state plan requiring more alternative energy doesn't hit customers too hard.
