A high speed chase along Interstate 25 southbound ended in Belen, with a dead body found inside the car.

New Mexico State Police say they tried to pull over a silver car Friday afternoon, but the car took off reaching speeds up to 100 miles per hour.

Police say the car got off at the first Belen exit and stopped at one point. They say the officer tried to approach the driver and reported that the driver started coming towards him, so he fired a shot at the car.  Police are still investigating if that shot hit anything or anyone.

The chase continued, until the silver car crashed into three other cars on Main Street and Reinken Avenue.

"Officers did a security sweep of the vehicle as standard practice on felony stop to make sure there's no weapons, injured individuals, deceased subjects," Sgt. Emanuel Gutierrez said.

Sergeant Gutierrez says they have not determined an age or gender of the body.  He says three women were taken into custody at the scene.
