Albuquerque residents could know as early as Tuesday if accused church stabber, Lawrence Capener has been indicted by a grand jury.

Audio recordings of phone calls made to police the morning of April 28th reveal the chaotic and terrifying moments following a vicious attack during Sunday mass.

They also reveal some parishioners took matters into their own hands and lashed out against Capener.

The 24-year-old is accused of stabbing three parishioners, including the choir director.

The attack came after communion while the choir was performing.

One caller tells the 911 dispatcher the suspect was screaming as he ran toward choir Director, Adam Alvarez.

Police said Capener later told them he intended to hurt Alvarez because the devil sent messages through the microphone every time he sang.

A female caller can be heard reacting to what may be people outside the church lashing out at Capener.

“Ok they need to get here soon because we have other people coming around and starting to attack the offender,” she said. "Yeah, there are people getting upset. They need to be moved back."

Lawrence Capener is charged with three felony counts of aggravated assault.
