LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) - A Las Cruces man is in custody for allegedly threatening a female neighbor with a knife.

Police say 73-year-old Alberto Miranda is being held on suspicion of one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Las Cruces police detectives say Miranda allegedly was armed with a large knife and approached his neighbor's apartment Saturday morning and then threatened to harm the woman.

Witnesses told police that Miranda allegedly tried to gain entry into the woman's apartment while yelling obscenities at her.

Police say the woman wasn't injured.

He's been booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center with his bond set at $5,000.

Police didn't immediately know Tuesday if Miranda has a lawyer yet.
