City Councilor Matt Pennington said the proposed ordinance to ban all pets at city events is a matter of public safety.
"With the amount of people in such a small proximity it becomes inherently dangerous when you introduce animals," said Pennington.
The idea for the ordinance came from concerned citizens who witness dog attacks at several local events and they don't want the same to happen to them.
"I've talked to several people, some single mothers, it’s hard enough to take your kids to a park with such a huge group of people and worry about where there at what they're doing and the without having to then worry about animals are they nice are they mean how it’s going to work out how they're going to react to each other and it’s just were just trying to simplify things," he said.
For the next fifteen days the proposed ordinance will be posted in town. The city council will vote to make it official at their next meeting.
Pennington said this ordinance has had a lot of positive feedback.
The city hopes the ordinance will ease any fear of animal attacks so people can get out and have a good time.
The proposed ordinance is not in effect yet. The city will post the ordinance for 15 days. The city council will vote on it at the next meeting to make it official. They welcome all feedback from residents.
