Highway department crews are working to get Highway 491 reopened after heavy rains washed out a portion of the road.

The Navajo Police Department says flood waters took out a section of the road including a culvert, which is about 15 long and 5 feet in deep

The road between Farmington and Gallup is closed in the area of mile post 44, north of Naschitti.

Heavy rains flooded the road out last night.

Expect the road to be closed for the time being as crews work to fix the washout.

It could take upwards of two weeks to get the road reopened.
