A woman is dead after New Mexico State Police say she rolled her car in Chaves County early this morning.

Police say it looks like the driver, Carolina Lara of roswell, swerved to avoid hitting an animal on Highway 70.

They say she lost control of the car, causing it to roll, ejecting her.

They say she was not wearing her seatbelt.

The passenger, Osten Marez of Artesia, was taken to the hospital.

Police are also trying to determine if alcohol played a role after finding some on the scene of the crash.
