The Torrance Co. County Manager is scheduled to appear in Bernalillo Co. District Court later this month for a preliminary hearing answering to accusations by the New Mexico Attorney General that she defrauded the county.

Joy Ansley is accused of funneling hundreds of thousands of dollars in contracts to one vendor—Chris Valdez.  Despite the serious accusations, the Torrance County Commission has allowed Ansley to remain on the job and continue to manage contracts and the county’s finances.

When 4 On Your Side asked Commissioner Leroy Candelaria in April why the commission wouldn’t consider placing Ansley on administrative leave or reassigning her to a position with less power until the criminal matter is cleared up, Candelaria responded “she is innocent until proven guilty.”

Ansley will be in Judge Kenneth Martinez’s courtroom on July 29. 4 On Your Side plans to be in the courtroom.
