SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - Authorities say a 25-year-old New Mexico man is recovering after he was shot by Santa Fe police during a stolen vehicle investigation.
Officials said Roberto Mendez was shot by officers late Thursday in a parking lot.
According to state police, Mendez hit a Santa Fe police cruiser, drove toward officers trying to stop the 2003 green Ford Explorer and was hit by gunfire when officers shot at the vehicle.
Police say Mendez suffered injuries to his head and was transported to University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque. He is expected to survive.
Investigators say also inside the stolen car was another man, two women and a 4-year-old boy. No other injuries were reported and no other arrests were made.
Charges against Mendez are pending.
It was not known if he had an attorney.
