Kids heading to school in northeast Albuquerque on Friday morning were surprised to hear reports of a bear wandering nearby.

The bear was first spotted around 6:42 a.m. near a Farmers Insurance parking lot near Corona and Wyoming.

The area is close to both Desert Ridge Middle School and La Cueva High School.

New Mexico Game and Fish darted and captured the bear a short time later on Anaheim Avenue.

Ross Morgan of Game and Fish said the bear was a young female and in really good shape. He said they will give the bear antibiotics and tag her before they find a safe place to release her.
