The crash occurred on I-40 near Rio Grande.
Albuquerque police say a female driver involved in a major crash on I-40 was hiding crack cocaine inside of her body.
Angelique Pena-Chavez and her 10-year-old son are listed in critical condition after the crash on Monday afternoon. According to police, Pena-Chavez hit a semi cab stalled in the shoulder of I-40 westbound near Rio Grande. Her car then spun out into traffic and was hit by another vehicle.
The drugs were found when Pena-Chavez underwent emergency surgery at UNM Hospital. Police say charges are pending at this time due to her critical condition.
The driver of the third vehicle was taken to Presbyterian Hospital and is listed in stable condition. The driver of the semi-truck was not hurt.
