Labor Day weekend is in the top five most dangerous holidays to travel, according to the National Highway Traffic Administration.
The American Red Cross of New Mexico has tips on how you can keep your family safe this Labor Day weekend.
One thing you should always have in your car is an emergency kit.
The Red Cross said to always be prepared or any type of emergency because you never know when something is going to happen. Another tip: let someone know where you're going, the roads you're taking and when you expect to get there. That way someone will know where you are if an emergency does happen.
Beverly Allen with the Red Cross of New Mexico said there's one thing you have to take with you on your trip that's really important.
"If you're doing outdoor activities whether you do it in town or on the road, going to the lake. Make sure you have plenty of water so you don't get dehydrated," Allen said.
