The Lobo football team took down the UTEP Miners 42-35 in El Paso on Saturday for its first win of the season.

New Mexico and UTEP were tied at 35 at the end of regulation, but the Lobos took care of business in overtime.

Kasey Carrier ran in a 21-yard score in the extra quarter.

The Lobo defense held off the Miners last chance to tie the game and New Mexico (1-1) won its first game of the season.

Kasey Carrier, who rushed for just 54 yards a week ago, had 291 yards on 41 carries.

Quarterback Clayton Mitchem finished his first game in charge of the offense by going 4 for 7 for 88 yards.

Mitchem also ran for an additional 51 yards.

The Lobos will play at Pittsburgh next week.
