KOB Eyewitness News 4’s viewers helped find a classic car that was stolen that has a lot of sentimental value for the owner.
KOB showed viewers Chris Vigil's 1964 Mercury Parklane on Saturday.
Vigil says his dad was working on it for years until he died of cancer. Then, Vigil finished the project.
He says the car is like having a piece of his father with him.
But Wednesday, that car was stolen from the Autozone on Alameda and Coors when Vigil left it running.
He says he was having battery issues, and did not want to have to jumpstart it again. But he was not gone long before it was stolen.
After Vigil contacted us and put a posting about it on Craigslist, a lot of tips came in from people spotting the car around town.
Around 9:30 Saturday night, our cameras were rolling as several suspects were arrested.
"I was happy and sad. I was really glad that I got the car back, but I was sad that they would treat it the way they did," Vigil said.
He said there was spilled beer and bottles all over the car.
There is also some damage to the wiring.
But Sunday evening, Vigil was already working to fix the damage.
He said he plans to eventually give the car to his youngest daughter.
