An image of a former New Mexico teacher injured in the Kenya mall attack is moving people from all over the world.

The photo shows 26-year-old Elaine Dang covered in blood and being pulled to safety after terrorists opened fire on shoppers in a Nairobi mall over the weekend.

People who knew Dang say she was a dedicated teacher and they're relieved to find out she's OK.

"It was scary to see her on TV like that," said Cindy from Crownpoint, whose two daughters were taught by Dang. "She's just such a nice person and was always there for the kids and always willing to help them."

Dang is originally from San Diego and taught math at Crownpoint High School on the Navajo reservation from 2009 to 2011. She's currently working for a company called 'Eat out Kenya.'

Dang was inside the Nairobi mall Saturday when Islamic militants killed at least 68 people and injured more than 175.

Dang posted a picture on Twitter, writing, "Proof that I am okay-- hanging out with my best friends in Nairobi."

"It was just shocking to see her like that and we're just glad that she's not really, really hurt or injured really bad," Cindy said. "I messaged her this morning when I saw her, but haven't heard back from her yet."

Dang also tweeted, "I am recovering. Thank you for all the love and support - in Kenya and overseas. Terrorism knows no religion."

One of Dang's old colleagues from Crownpoint reached out to KOB Eyewitness News 4. Leslie Schenk wanted KOB to know Dang was very committed to her students and attended every high school graduation before she left Crownpoint.
