The financially burdened US Postal Service is now asking for a three cent price increase on stamps.
The move would raise the price of a first-class stamp to 49 cents.
According to the Associated Press, the chairman of the Postal Board of Governors cited the agency's "precarious financial condition" as the reason for the raise.
The independent Postal Regulatory Commission will now decide whether or not to approve the request.
The agency expects to lose $6 billion this year.
