Albuquerque Public Schools confirm some students at Polk Middle School came in contact with a rabid bat on Wednesday.
According to a letter sent to Polk Middle School parents, some students found a bat near the school and may have touched it. The school called the state department of health and submitted the bat for rabies testing.
The department has notified the school that the bat tested positive for rabies.
Polk's principal, Eva Vigil, urges parents to talk to their children and find out if they touched the bat. Parents of any kids who touched the bat are urged to call the school nurse at (505)-877-0006.
Any other questions can be directed to the department of health at (505)-827-0006.
