A cold front could bring the first freeze of the season to Albuquerque on Friday night, but the big question on everyone's mind is, "How's the wind for Balloon Fiesta?"

KOB meteorologist Jorge Torres says models show high wind gusts overnight in parts of Quay and Curry County, but Albuquerque and Santa Fe look noticeably clear. Our models show similar conditions around launch time for the Balloon Fiesta opening ceremony, which is scheduled to begin at 6:45 a.m.

As of 1 p.m. on Friday, KOB's weather team is expecting a green flag for Balloon Fiesta, which means balloon launches will be good to go with wind speeds around 5-8 mph. Launches will be canceled if winds reach speeds of 10 or more mph.

Still, conditions could change overnight. Stay tuned to KOB Eyewitness News 4 tonight and KOB.com for Balloon Fiesta forecast updates.
