As we enter a new week of the federal government shutdown, hundreds of thousands of workers still are not getting paid.

Congresswoman Michelle Lujan Grisham held a roundtable discussion Sunday with federal workers.

They told her how the shutdown is affecting their day-to-day lives.

She said she will take those stories back to Washington D.C.

One of the workers at the meeting today let KOB Eyewitness News 4 spend some time with her to see how life has changed.

Tracy Ife works for the U.S. Forest Service.

Ife says right now, she is trying to stretch every last dollar in her checking account until the shutdown is over.

"I don't want to have to cry myself to sleep at night thinking that I'm not going to be able to take care of what I should be able to take care of because I have a permanent full time job that I've been doing for 15 years," Ife said.

She said she also pays her elderly mother's mortgage. She fears that will not get paid if she cannot get back to work soon.

Lujan Grisham told workers in the meeting that she fears every day the government’s stays shutdown, more damage is done.

"The ripple effects from that, I don't know how we recover from. So my job now is to make sure that every member of Congress knows that we cannot default on the debt ceiling," Congresswoman Lujan Grisham said. "We must pay our debt and all we're asking for is 6 weeks.  We're going to get that clean CR on the floor of the House and we're going to get a vote."
